A tooth consists of three basic parts:
Inside the crown is the pulp chamber, which in the area of the neck passes into the root canal.
The tooth is composed of three different hard tissues: enamel, dentine and cementum. Inside the pulp chamber and root canal is the dental pulp, which provides nutrition and innervation to the whole tooth.
The root is fixed in the tooth socket by the periodontium, which consists of the gum, periodontal ligaments, alveolar bone and cementum. The space between the free edge of the gum and the tooth surface is called the gingival groove (sulcus).
